Men must also take care of their diet and refrain from any sort of unhealthy eating habits. When both father and mother are healthy, then only will they be able to give birth to a healthy child. Here let us understand what all needs to be a part of a would-be father's diet.
Healthy Diet for the To-be Father
Men's body too needs to have appropriate level of folate i.e. folic acid. Chances for genetically abnormal sperm can increase due to low level of folic acid. Men whose diet contains less folate are prone to lower sperm count and reduced motility of individual sperm. Healthy diet helps in increasing sperm quality and eradicates abnormal sperm. Here's what you must eat:
-
Adequate amount of fresh fruits, low-fat dairy products, fresh green vegetables, whole grains are very beneficial to become a healthy father.
-
Include folate rich food in your diet like green leafy vegetables, zinc and vitamin C. Broccoli, leafy greens, carrots, papaya, brown rice, fortified cereals and sprouts are also rich sources of folic acid. Maintain zinc level as high amount of zinc also cause poor sperm motility. It is recommended to have 12 to 15 mg of zinc daily in your diet.
-
If you are a smoker, then have orange juice daily for vitamin C.
-
Coffee is good for man. Caffeine supports in sperm motility. Man who drinks 4-5 cup of coffee can increase chances for higher sperm motility and as well as of a healthy conception.
-
Vitamins play vital role in quality of sperm. Vitamin E is vital for producing hormones that help to generate sperm. Vitamin C is necessary for preventing clotting. Selenium is significant for sperm’s cell wall integrity and durability.
Food to be Avoided by To-be Father
Avoid drinking, smoking and drugs as all of these affect the quality and quantity of sperm and also make conception difficult. In man, infertility problems are nearly same as woman; therefore it is advisable to avoid alcoholic drinks and smoking. Occasional drinking is not harmful, but excessive use of wine or beer affects hormone levels and decreases testosterone levels.
Other than food habits, one must even make sure to control the lifestyle habits. Lesser physical activity and excess use of cell phone can also affect the fertility.
It is advisable for a man to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Healthy diet helps in better fertilization of the egg. To conceive a healthy baby, father and mother should try to live a happy and healthy life. Spending good time together in pleasant atmosphere has great affect on your health.
