Abortion is the process of terminating a pregnancy, and there are many methods of abortion in practise nowadays. This is really serious decision that entirely depends on the couple especially the expecting woman. The process includes the removal of the embryo and fetus together with the placenta from the uterus of the gravid or pregnant woman.
Methods of Abortion
Spontaneous Abortion: This kind of miscarriage happens naturally without any medical involvement or other kind of procedures. It's more commonly known as miscarriage. Spontaneous abortion is also called incomplete abortion, if a part of the embryo is left in the uterus.
Induced Abortion: This type of abortion is carried out under the supervision of pills and surgical procedures. It is done keeping in mind the physical health in the gravid, and is also known as beneficial or therapeutic abortion.
Performing abortion may depend on how far the pregnancy has reached. If the woman has any medical issue that can affect the process, it can get a bit risky.
Abortion Types
Medical abortion
Medical abortion is carried out using medications rather than surgery. It is done in the first nine weeks of pregnancy. Usually, a woman is given a pill during her first visit to the doctor. This pill prevents the production of the chemical substance, which is fundamental hormone for pregnancy. The lack in this chemical substance makes the uterus lining thin. In the second consultation with the doctor, the woman needs to have another kind of medications which drives out the tissues. The purpose of the third and last visit to the doctor is to see if the medicine has succeeded and all the tissue in the uterus have been driven out properly. Light bleeding is mutual during performing abortion.
Suction Aspiration
It is the most common type of abortion and is done during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. In this procedure, the woman is given an anesthesia, and her cervix is enlarged. A concave tube is slot in to the womb, in which the vacuum is associated with a stronger vacuum than the regular household vacuum. The surrounding placenta and fetus are extracted out of the woman and removed.
D & C (Dilation and Curettage)
This type of abortion is commonly used for women who have not yet reached the 18th-week of pregnancy. A woman’s cervix is stretched in this process so that the equipment can enter the womb. The lining of the uterus is rubdown to diminish the tissue in the uterus. The tissue is then separated from the womb through the cervix using the small suction device.
Induction Abortion
An abortion can also be achieved by using a salty solution. This kind of abortion is used for those women who have passed 16-weeks of pregnancy. The physician will implant an extensive needle into the mother's abdomen and the fluid-filled sac, and vaccinate a very hard saline solution. This type of procedure probably takes a couple of hours.
Abortion is only justified if the expecting woman has any kind of health issues or the would-be parents aren't prepared enough to take the responsibility of a child.
