Every child’s goal should be tracked by parents in order for them to understand the child’s behavior and love them even more as they are also evolving amongst the drastic changes of the world and become more competitive as years pass by. We should know that our little seven year olds’ physical, social and emotional needs so that as a parent you could balance his time and manage to be with your child and understand his needs very well. As influences in the environment nowadays became more and more negative, parents should be there to teach an guide their kids at this age so that he is not affected by any of these bad influences.

Physical Development
A seven year child shows enthusiasm for certain extracurricular activities. At this age his liking towards activities that involve physical proficiency increases. A few activities that might catch his eyes at this age are karate, gymnastics, dancing, bicycle riding, swimming, etc. These are some great activities for a child to get involved with and enjoy his childhood. He becomes more interested in sports and thus portrays his excess energy.

Language and Thinking Development
At this age, the child demonstrates more attention and becomes more reflective. They long to be given affection and shown love and attention and the like.

Can grasp things around him and is able to understand the reason of things around him in his own little way and can differentiate between the two objects and can grasp the sounds that form words, at this age also he is able to read a bit faster and is able to use different new words every moment and understands it further.

A seven year old child can understand and follow less detailed instructions and displays curiosity and desire to share his knowledge with others.

His knowledge on his mathematical prowess has widened and now he is able to probably add and subtract simple numbers and has likely developed some of his mathematical skills.

The child at this age is improving his literacy skills and expands his interaction with language and cognition which form the basis for a child’s academic development.

Social and Emotional Development
At this age of a child, a parent should always talk to him and comfort him because it is at this time where he is more likely to worry and have low self confidence. He becomes apprehensive and afraid when he is unable to do things in the right way. At seven, a child is able to identify on when to react in such a situation and has learned to establish self control.

Your child has developed his concerns for others and becomes more mature at this age. He also desires to be perfect and self critical.

Tends to react or complain but understands the difference between right and wrong that’s why he is seldom scolded and is rarely punished because he tend to listen to every correction made for the wrong acts.

This time, he is more likely to avoid being with adults but finds more wonderful time being with the children of his age. He often puts the blame on others. He starts to feel conscious and guilty in situations.

Discipline
A seven year old child can somehow behave in public places because he is conscious when he makes mistake or gets himself into trouble. A perfect strategy for them to follow rules is to give them a ten minute warning. Giving him a ten minute warning to finish what he is doing then after doing so or complying with the task given, instruct him again for another assignment.

Since a child at this age is conscious when he is scolded or punished, he listens to someone who talks to him for a mistake done and listens attentively and understands why an instruction is given and cooperation is needed.

Useful activities for a seven year old child
A seven year old child is fond of learning one step higher when it comes to language and his ability to read and write are actively taught rather than passively acquired. Here are a few activities that enhance the skills of a seven year:

Readingregular reading for a child of this age is of big help for him to enhance his language development skills. It will make him academic and bring in the feeling inside him that reading is important and is more enjoyable and fun. Not only that, it will also expose him to new words that he wouldn’t otherwise encounter in his daily life.

Vocabulary Hikeencourage your child to ask more questions about anything he doesn’t understands. This will help him develop and widen his vocabulary and language skills by relating them to things he sees and finds interesting in the real world.

Jokeshatever are the activities you have as a parent with your child for the day, have him read you some jokes; provided, you should have a joke book with you too which is appropriate for his age. This will in turn raise his interest levels in reading.

Word Writingmake a theme of words for a week so that your child will understand the words he cannot relate to in some other situations, such as compound words. Write it in a prominent place or in a piece of large paper or in a white board so that your child will understand the vocabulary he is trying to understand by showing him visual record how much he is improving over a period of time.

Each and every child is unique and complex; and each of their development are mostly influenced by factors in his environment and by the experiences he has. Being supportive, loving and understanding parents helps the seven year old child to mold his character and helps him in becoming a good person in the future.
