Wondering why are we talking of resolutions when the current year has already reached midway? Well, who says resolutions are confined to the year beginning only. They can be your best move whenever you feel the need of changing something for good.
So far you may have made many resolutions but have you ever made any parenting resolution? Talking of parenting resolutions, moms need to focus on them more because while rearing kids, they play the major part. They have to manage the house, husband, kids and other relations as well.
Also, as parents everyone makes mistakes and it’s quite obvious as well. However, learning from the mistakes and changing your parenting way accordingly can help you nurture your kids in a more efficient manner. Get over the parenting mistakes you may have made so far and get on with these resolutions for better results.
1. Aim for more patience
Parenting is a full-time job and it does need tremendous amount of patience. Kids will come up with varied behaviour and you will have to deal with each of their acts very patiently. Being patient helps you deal with things peacefully and you happen to be in a better state of mind. It aids you understand your child’s perspective and you look at everything with a positive prospect.
2. Limit your Don’ts
This is one word which moms often use. Don’t touch the things on the table, don’t go out right now, don’t mess with your books....and the list just goes on. Don’t you think it’s time you limit the use of it? Instead of sounding negative while giving kids certain advice, be more positive. Mould your Don’ts as ‘can you help me in keeping the table organized’, frame the sentences in a positive as it will always encourage kids to listen to your instructions.
3. No mixing of work and family
You are a working woman and you sure have a lot to manage both at work and at home. But keep the two fully separate. When at home, make sure all your attention stays focused on your kids. Once in a blue moon it’s okay to attend to urgent work needs from home but don’t make it a frequent thing.
4. Encourage dining together
A family that eats together, booms together in happiness and harmony. Though it might not be possible on a daily basis as most husbands have to fulfil their work commitments which makes them miss the dinner time with family. But if not daily, try to do it on weekends. Aim for a family dinner every weekend or whenever you can get hold of such opportunity. It can be all the more delightful, if you can plan for the same at home rather than going out.
5. Monitoring behaviour of kids
In your busy schedules, you often forget to see how your child is growing up. Is he a considerate child? Does he care for environment and nature? You sure have taught him to be polite and kind but constant monitoring is the only way to know whether or not they are implementing your teachings. Right from maintaining cleanliness around to being considerate towards animals; make sure you are teaching them everything.
6. Making exercise a fun time
Don’t make exercise sound like a compulsion? You know how important it is for your growing kids. So if you have to indulge them in a healthy exercise routine, do it in a fun way. Plan out some fun activities while exercising and be an active participant as this will encourage your kids as well.
7. Aim to spend more time with kids
There is no other way of bonding with kids than spending more time with them. Involve yourself in their lives and offer a helping hand whenever you feel like assisting them in completing any school project or collecting any random information related to their school subjects.
8. Go bilingual
If you speak any regional language, it’s time you choose for a bilingual approach when communicating with kids. Each language must be given the due importance and you should encourage your child to use them in their day to day conversations.
9. Aim at being an equally good wife and mother
And while you try to be a perfect mother, don’t neglect your duties as a wife. After all, your husband is always going to be the supportive pillar in this journey and you will have to achieve the parenting goals together. Essay both your roles in the best way possible.
10. Love yourself too
How can you miss out yourself? If you have to take up the responsibility as a mother and a wife, you will first have to take the responsibility of yourself too. Amid everything, aim to take out some quality time for yourself too. When you will learn to love yourself, you will always be filled with the positive energy to love others too.
See to it that these resolutions are implemented without further ado so that your parenting becomes more effectual.
