After having one baby, most of the parents aren’t sure when they want to have the next one if it is already decided that they do want one more baby. It all depends on you. Would it be possible for you to handle two small kids in diapers? Or do you feel it is a better option to wait for some years between two births.
 

Each of the spacing has its own advantages as well as disadvantages :

Advantages of having a kid within a year

Tough stuff gets over pretty soon : If you have just two kids then the initial baby years that are quite tough to deal with get over quite quickly. It is not possible to sleep much in any case so it is considered better to be deprived of your sleep just once.
 

Potty training gets faster for the second one : Some things tend to get a lot easier when you have two kids in the same age bracket. For instance, the potty training for the child who is younger gets a bit faster.
 

Disadvantages

One thing that the parents would have to suffer from is sleep deprivation and that too long term. If you are a mum of two little toddlers, then the kids tend to be entirely dependent on their parents and the parents have a feeling of running ragged. Also two little ones in diapers that are disposable are quite costly.
 

You would not be able to enjoy both the children as individuals : You would not be able to remember the first baby book of your kid or any such new milestone in your kid’s life. The parents are bound to miss some of the cute as well as tender moments of their children.
 

Not considered to be a very healthy option : If you are having two little ones close together then there is an increased chance of your second kid developing autism as per a new study. Columbia University researchers have suggested that if you conceive the second child within two years then that kid was two times more at risk of developing autism.
 

Advantages of having a kid within two or three years

An older child who can prove to be helpful : Most probably the elder kid would be in preschool and you thus get the time for your younger kid and as a result the older one also does not feel displaced.
 

You can sleep peacefully for two years : Your first baby must have learnt to sleep well now and as a result you can also have a peaceful night now. You should take the decision to have the second baby only when you feel well rested once again.
 

Expensive gear can be passed down : If the kids have an age difference of at least two years, then the expensive gears that were bought for the first kid can simply be reused and thus a fortune can be saved.
 

Disadvantages

Pregnancy gets harder : Extreme fatigue is experienced by almost every woman who is pregnant. But it can be worse and doubly tiring to run after a temperamental and active toddler during pregnancy.
 

Diaper duty : Just after your first kid has been potty-trained by you, you have to go buy the diapers again and hence the process gets repeated again.

Advantages of having a kid within four or five years

An older child who is super helpful : The older child by now has become quite responsible and he would prove to be of great help in taking good care of the little baby.
 

Kids belonging to separate age groups get to learn from each other : the older kid will get to learn something about nurturing and may also read books to your other kid.
 

Every child gets his own time : Each kid gets proper and undivided attention from his parents.

Disadvantages

Family feuds : A sibling may not be exactly welcomed by a child who was the only one for the past few years. A feeling of resentment may develop in your older child.
 

Such a long gap is not considered good for health : it has been shown by a study that a gap of five years may result into less birth weight or premature delivery.
