Indian culture is given high regards all over the world. Our nation is known to be the country that stands united despite the widespread diversity. And when it comes to Indian values, every parent around wants kids to grow up with these values.
However, while we aim at instilling Indian values in our kids, we must also not forget that values and principles are designed to make our life easier. They are never the controller of our lives. Some values are to be kept for a lifetime while some need to be changed and adapted as per the changing scenarios. We must match pace with the world around while sticking by our roots and embracing the values which help us succeed in life rather than holding onto the hypocrite ideologies which seldom do any good for us.
When teaching Indian values to kids, you must analyze as to which values are a must for your child to learn and which need a reformed version. Here check out some of the vital Indian values every child must be taught:
1. Love for family
Family culture is still given high respect and regard in India. It’s very important for a child to understand the importance of family and giving it the due respect. You must teach your child how everyone in the family has his own space and identity which must be respected by each individual in the family.
2. Respect for elders
Respecting elders, be it parents, teachers, relatives or elderly people around; is another Indian value you must teach your child. However, you must also tell that respect is always earned. Teach your child that any person who is righteous by nature deserved to be respected but if a person doesn’t really care for others, he can never be worthy of being given the respect. Such people should always be kept at a distance.
3. Adjusting & Compromising not at the cost of your life
Adjustment and compromise are the two words which majority of Indians swear by; especially the women. Though this value sounds good and even benefits others, but while adjusting and compromising, people put their own life at stake which doesn’t sound wise. Teach your kids that adjusting and compromising is good to an extent, if it curbs your identity; it’s never worth doing.
4. Helping each other
It’s indeed a great value that Indians have. Be it anyone in the family, neighborhood or for that matter a stranger, we always vouch for helping people who are in need. This is one quality that you must instill in your kids. Teach him or her why it’s important to help other people. Tell them that anyone can need help and when we help others, we also get help when needed. We live in a society and we are all dependent on each other in one way or the other. Therefore, as good human beings, we must always lend a helping hand to the person who is in need of it.
5. Respect for all religions
India has so many religions but despite the differences in religious belief, we stand as a strong and united nation. This is because our culture teaches us to respect each religion. No matter which religion you follow, make sure you teach your child the importance of all religions. Make them give due respect to each religion. Be it Holi, Diwali, Christmas or Id; all festivals should be enjoyed with the spirit of love and unity.
6. Speaking up for the right
Wrong things happen in every part of the country but turning the eyes away from them can never be the solution. India is a land of great men and women who have always stood up for the right. Teach your child that if they see any wrong thing happening around, they must always raise their voice for the same and should never shy away from standing by the truth.
7. Charity is good
When it comes to charity, people often perceive it as giving alms to beggars. Well, charity is a lot more than that and in fact, you can’t call giving money to beggars as charity. It’s about helping people who are underprivileged. You must help poor kids by donating them old school books, toys, and clothes. Even if you have to help a beggar, it would b better to buy him some eatable or give old clothes instead of giving money.
8. Honesty is indeed the best policy
Without any doubt, honesty is indeed the best policy and it’s one quality that your child must be taught. This is what will help him build his future in a right and respected manner. Kids, who are instilled with honesty, can very much change the future of the nation.
Always teach your kids that values are good only if they happen to do good to people around but if the same values tend to be detrimental, it’s better to shun them away!
