Asperger’s syndrome is a part of the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). It is a form of autism that disables the ability to form relationships and interact with others. The people with Asperger’s find it difficult to understand those social norms and signals that normal people take for granted, which leads to high level of frustration in the affected individuals. Though it is a lifelong disability, with the right form of treatment and support, the affected individuals can go on to live a normal life.
Such people are found to have more than average level of intelligence, but have difficulties in social interaction, communication and imagination. The degree of severity of symptoms varies in individuals, and often the disorder can be accompanied with certain learning disabilities like dyspraxia and dyslexia. It is believed that Asperger’s syndrome is caused due to genetic reasons, and no cure has been found to date. The neurological disorder is found to affect 4 times more boys as girls. Today, people with Asperger’s are categorised as different thinkers, as they can focus on details, work independently, can make their decisions without being influenced by other’s opinions and have original thinking. These traits are beneficial in several
professions.
