Ear infection is one of the most common childhood problems, which might end up giving both you and your child sleepless nights. They are caused due to bacterial or viral infections, primarily due to poor hygiene. While some ear infections tend to get better on their own soon, some others may require an antibiotic course. Good hygiene should be practised to avoid such infections. In case one has a troublesome infection, consult a good doctor.
In case of a bacterial or viral infection, the middle ear gets filled with a watery fluid, which pressurises the region and can cause discomfort and pain to the individual. One can have pain killers or ear drops to reduce inflammation and pain, but it must not be given to children below 2 years. Avoid using ear drops in case of any leakage from the ear and consult an ENT specialist immediately. The doctor will check the movement of ear drum and suggest appropriate medication. Mostly antibiotics and pain reliever are recommended to heal an ear infection. In case the child is suffering with recurrent ear infections, an audiogram may be prescribed. To avoid getting an ear infection, steer clear of people suffering from cold. Also, wash your hands with antibacterial soap whenever required and do not touch your eyes and nose too often.
