The first mention of 25th December as the birth date of Jesus Christ has been in 336 AD. Christians celebrate this day as the birth anniversary of Jesus of Nazareth, who was their spiritual leader. He was born in a manger, to Joseph and Mary, a poor couple. Jesus is said to be “the son of God”. There is no mention about Jesus being born on 25th December itself, but as the years have progressed, due to pagan origins and adapting new calendar, Christ Birth began to be celebrated on this day, the Western Christians were the first ones to celebrate Christmas on this day, when Constantine recognized Christianity as the state religion. Winter was considered the most auspicious time for all European celebrations, during which they prospered and had plenty.
