Why is it celebrated?
Id-ul-fitr or id is one of the most important festivals of the Muslim community. According to popular belief, the Holy Quran was revealed in the month of Ramzan. Id marks the end of this holy month. On the last day of Ramzan, people begin sighting the crescent moon, and as soon as it is sighted, the celebrations of id begin throughout the Muslim community.

Ramzan is the most auspicious month, during which all Muslims fast and pray. It is believed that gates of heaven are open in this month, while the gates of hell are closed. It is believed that the month of Ramzan is Allah’s own month. Another legend says the battle of Badr took place during this time, between the people of Mecca and Medina. Throughout the world, the devotees of Allah fast during the day and eat and drink only at night during Ramzan. This month is meant show one’s dedication to Allah by prayers, and all other forms of entertainment are prohibited. Eid marks the end of this month, when people get together to celebrate the happiness and purity achieved by following the doctrines of Islam.
