The most delicate element about a newborn infant is his skin. You as a parent need to take very gentle care of your baby’s skin otherwise you will see that after some time it will become dry and will start to peel off. Baby lotions, creams and ointments are available in the market and they are fairly good, but for any random baby product is not good. The chemicals in these products are really harmful for your baby and can cause itching, infection or irritation.
Here are a few dos and don’ts to take care of your baby’s skin:
-
Give your baby sponge baths only until its umbilical cord comes off. The cord can be infected if it is directly exposed to water.
-
Newborn acne is also a common skin problem which is witnessed in newborn infants. It lasts for about 3 weeks and is naturally cured. In case of prolonged acne problem, it is better to refer your pediatrician.
-
Use baby powder to smoothen and crease the gentle body parts of the infant like armpits, neck, genitals, etc.
-
Cream, ointments and lotions causes blocking of skin pores and can lead to infection and rashes so they should be avoided.
