Toddlers have this amazing energy and drive which keeps them active throughout the day. Sometimes it feels like their energy has tuned into hyper behavior and that it will never end. At times you feel that there are very few options available to keep them engaged. It’s high time when you should know the right channels to put her energy into. Researches show that a toddler should have 30 minutes of planned exercise and 1 hour of unplanned activities like free play at a park. It is also believed that kids, who are channeled into right activities, not only sleep better but also maintain healthy weight. Best part about exercise is that your toddler will be able to ward off several serious illness including cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
Unlike adults, there is no strict form of exercise in toddlers. You can conduct exercise through several forms and get your little one moving!
Hoof it
Sunshine and fresh air can inspire anyone, even your toddler. If you can’t go to the park, even stepping out in the yard can keep your child rolling. The toddler can climb, run and jump in your yard. For further inspiration, get some balls, riding toys and tricycles to keep your child moving. If it’s a bright summer day, help your toddler to crack some balls in mini tennis with you. On a cold winter day, you can spend some quality time by making snowman and snow clause. Crunch and munch some leaves, in a dull but fun fall evening. And finally spring time can be enjoyed with some hiking exercises.
No strict rules!
As said earlier, there are no strict rules. You can promote exercise, even with a small walk to the supermarket or library. If your destination is too far, park your car on the entrances and avail the chance for a mini walk with your toddler. Another way to add some fitness is to opt for stairs and not the escalator or elevator.
So ‘No’ to being a couch potato
Nothing can be easier than keeping your child busy at his favorite Disney DVD or cartoon. But your comfort can cause harm to your child. Make sure you child watches TV till 2 hours and not more. Limiting time spent with techno stuff and promoting outdoor activities will not only keep your baby healthy at present but will also protect your child from future technology addiction. If your child is a die heart fan of DVDs, then introduce those which promote physical activities like clapping, jumping etc.
Team spirit
Your toddler will enjoy exercising when it is done with a group of other same aged toddlers. To promote the idea, invest small amount and sign your child with a sports league. Other options include signing her up at tap class at dance studio or tumbling class at gym. Your toddler will love getting on a roll with other kids and this will help you in maintaining consistency.
