And interestingly, you never really have to work harder to get your preschooler into exercise mode. At this age, most kids stand very active and they fulfil the exercise need through their daily routine of moving around, running, dancing or chasing.

Dealing with Overweight Preschooler
If you feel your toddler is overweight, you will have to speak to your child’s paediatrician. Every child has different growth needs and the development also varies from child to child. A child health care expert would be able to tell you if your toddler is growing according to his age. And if he isn’t, you will have to work on his daily diet and exercise.
Again, when it comes to planning the right diet and exercise, you don’t need to take extreme steps. Give your toddler a balanced diet which is rich in all vital nutrients as proteins, fats, carbohydrates and minerals. For the exercise routine, don’t plan anything strenuous. Your toddler’s body is very delicate and it just doesn’t need extended exercise hours. See to it that your little one stays physically active throughout the day and follows some exercise forms for at least 30-60 minutes in a day.

Call over your toddler’s friends or kids in the neighbourhood who are of your little one’s age. Toddlers have great fun when they play in a group. You can engage them in a number of activities like chasing a ball, chasing each other, a small game of cricket, racing, jumping around etc.

Take them to a nearby park or playground where they can indulge in slides, swings, climbs, and chasing each other.

Play around with them in the house. A little running and chasing with your child will be a good exercise for you too.

Dancing is also a great form of exercise. Play on some peppy numbers and make your toddler groove as his heart desires to. You can even engage him in action songs and nursery rhymes like ‘One, Two, Tie My Shoe’, ‘Old MacDonald’ or ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’.
