Kids are kids, whether it’s a baby girl or baby boy, it hardly matters as all one desires is to experience the bliss of parenthood. However, many times parents do come up with preferences over the two genders. Some feel that raising boys is comparatively tougher than girls while some think girls are difficult to manage.
This certainly has become a matter of great debate as parents who have boys always feel that they are having the toughest time raising them whereas parents with girls completely disagree on the same.
So is there really a difference between raising the two genders or it’s all the same? If you talk in terms of anatomy, there does exist a great deal of noticeable differences between boys and girls. However, when it comes to the development of their brain as kids, differences between the two genders are in fact quite petite.
They do show certain differences in terms of growth and development. There are some skills which the boys learn faster than girls and vice versa. Let us here check out as to how much they differ from each other when it comes to growth and development; and also who’s faster with the whole process.
1. Expressing emotions
Girls clearly stand to be the winner here. Researches done over kids’ development of emotional skills have proved that girls happen to be more expressive and emotive as compared to boys. Right from infancy, girls excel on this skill. They understand emotions and make efforts to express them as well. Whereas boys on the other end take time to develop the emotional skills. Well, seems like this is the reason girls stand to be so expressive even after growing up while boys are often seen hiding away their true feelings.
2. Social skills
This is another aspect of development where girls surpass boys. Child experts suggest that in the studies conducted over many toddlers and pre-schoolers, it was found that girls happen to be more social. They love meeting new people and gelling up with them while boys take time to open up. They enjoy being surrounded by known people rather than looking at unknown faces.
3. Spatial Skills
Now this is where boys have a clear cut win. Boys develop the spatial skills faster than girls. Spatial skills are the ability of solving problems related to size, distance and other features of any object. Effective spatial skills envisage a young person’s accomplishment in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. As boys develop this skill faster, they easily get to distinguish between different object shapes and sizes whereas girls take time to figure it out.
4. Choice of games and toys
Another difference that exists in boys and girls is the choice of toys and games. As they attain toddlerhood and indulge in more of games and toys; you will notice that boys mostly get drawn towards cars, trucks, trains; basically toys that reflect power and control. Girls on the other end love playing around with soft toys, dolls etc. which is indicative of their soft nature. This trait results due to the respective sex hormones. However, there are boys who love to play around with dolls and soft toys while girls of their age prefer cars. This is simply individual choice and it’s absolutely normal.
5. Physical Activity
When it comes to physical activity, girls lag behind the boys. In most cases, boys show more of physical activity. Even in the toddler stage, they stand to be more restless and can be seen moving around in the house; whereas girls of the same age would love to sit around and engage in playing with dolls and soft toys.
6. Temperament
When it comes to expressing anger or frustration, boys always resort to physical aggression while girls use the most powerful of tools?tears. Studies state that boys turn to be more physically aggressive than girls by the time they turn two. Having said so, don’t always expect girls to be the darling angels. Even they can surprise you with their high temperament at times.
7. Walking
Of late, there had been this strong perception that boys develop the motor skills faster than girls and they are the ones to take that first step. But if go by recent studies, the two genders don’t show much of difference when it comes to the development of motor skills. Both girls and boys start walking by the time they turn 16 months old.
8. Talking
Well, this certainly comes as no surprise. Most girls beat boys when it comes to talking. Studies state that baby girls start talking around second year of birth whereas boys take little more time. Also, girls have fairly larger vocabulary than boys.
There is a slight difference that exists in the growth pattern of the two genders. And irrespective of the genders, it’s always fun to cherish the development of your little one and this is what exactly counts. Boys or girls, parenting is indeed a great challenge which has to be fulfilled with great responsibility, love, affection and support!
