First rule you have to follow in teaching your toddler to learn how to talk is you have to be his playmate during most of his playing time. This is done in order for both of you to have intimacy and then you could teach him how to talk in some easy ways. If you want your toddler to learn talking, just follow these easy steps:
 

• Teach him a simple song so that he would try follow on what you are trying to sing.
  Studies show that by singing action songs alone, a child’s interest in talking is easily developed. Your young one will always try to say what you are singing. (If you believe you’re not a good singer even on nursery rhymes, you may try counting.)
   
• Try using simple words like “mama”, “papa”, “car”, “toy” and others.
  You may teach him directly by touching or holding samples like nose, ears, knees and mouth. Basic words should be your starting motivation. This would make him identify things and how they are called.
   
• Eye to eye contact is important.
  When you utter words, let him look at you first as you say the word slowly until he would learn. This is the basic style of learning.
   
• When saying the word, try using different tones.
  This will increase his listening potential to go after what you say and eventually learn.
   
• Do not focus on single words only.
  Try using phrases like “come to mama” or “give the ball to papa”. In cases like this, you have to repeat the phrase and demonstrate sometimes for a better and fast learning.
   
• Using sound effects will boost his learning.
  Another effective way is to teach your child with sound such as “vrooom vrooom” for motorcycles or trucks. You can also use sounds of animals visible around the house.
   
• Teach him sign language while talking to him constantly.
  It is by this idea where you toddler starts to learn directions. For instance, when you point into something he will know what you are trying to say.
   
• Read to him stories aloud.
  Practically even if your child is not so interested in stories, you could also show and name some things in the book that will somehow remain in his memory.
   

These approaches are applicable to toddlers but not guaranteed enough to promote your child’s speaking ability instantly. Every child is different in every way. You don’t have to feel embarrassed when after trying so hard on the lessons, nothing had changed. Their brain development varies in every way.

During the talking stage of toddlers, adults should also be careful in choosing what to say or make sure on appropriate words when a toddler is listening.
 

Remember these things:

• When toddlers learn to talk, they will follow on whatever you will; repeat after on what you say including bad words.
• Toddlers always believe that every word you are saying is correct, because they don’t have the perceptions on defining words deeply.
• Have a close supervision when your child mingles with other people. Some may teach your child to say vulgar and immoral words he is not supposed to learn. Some are making it just for fun because children are the best word imitators.
• Media is helpful in teaching your child to talk but some TV shows are not good motivators for their explicit conversations.

In some cases, there are children whose talking ability comes in late development. You must consider this theory only when your toddler’s age is considerable. If the situation is already beyond the fact, consider your child to be brought to a specialist for earlier examinations and recommendation.
