Preschooler is the age-group before 4 years of age. This is very native stage of life where the foundations of later years are being laid and considered really important for a child. These years determines how a child portrays himself/herself in the life ahead. All kinds of growth and development occur during this stage like:
-
physical
-
mental
-
psychological
-
emotional
-
behavioral, etc.
Parents need to pay extra attention during this stage of their child and needs to be very cautious for each and every activity they do will have direct effect on their child.
Importance of activity for a Preschooler:
Children in preschool years are generally unstoppable. They love to run, to climb, to jump and move about just here and there. This is considered as a positive sign that a child is experiencing the changes taking place in his/her body. This is the best time to develop fitness habits in preschoolers and to motivate them to become healthy individuals both mentally and physically. Exercising regularly helps child to grow, to develop healthy muscles and strong bones, neuro-motor skills and self-esteem. Also, during this stage, the most important thing to be kept in mind is the proper nutrition of the child because if the child is not eating properly he’s not going to be healthy enough to play actively. Special attention must be paid towards the diet of a child and it must be taken into account that the child is getting healthy food including all Five Food Groups. Children are very finicky about food, so care must be taken to provide food in the form they are likely to take. Small frequent meals at regular intervals must be administered since children cannot take large amount at a time and due to their active lifestyle they get hungry soon. Children learn things easily when they are taught during their playtime, hence, this is the best time to inculcate good values and teachings like sharing, mannerism, helping, etc.
Role of a Parent:
Parents play a key role in developing the future of a child. They lay the foundations of their child and inculcate good values to make them a better human being. Preschool is the most fun-loving stage where parents must keep their child active by participating in their activities. This is the time when parents need to understand the skills of their child and motivate them to enhance their skills. In this stage, children imitate their parents, so parents must be extra cautious not to deliver wrong speech or wrong deeds which may send wrong messages to children. Children do what they see their parents do so parents must motivate their child to develop healthy habits and to learn how to share things with others, how to behave with others, etc. Parents can involve in sports their child plays and can teach them healthy sportsmanship during the game. An active child takes his own decision and this develops decision-making ability in child. Parents’ effort and supervision makes child healthy and active to become a healthy individual.
