Now that you are pregnant, the preparation for welcoming the baby must be in full swing. Most of the couples join pregnancy classes, read endless number of books and shop extravagantly for their new one. This is just so that they could be at their best during the delivery and when the baby finally arrives. But, there are number of things which no one tells about the labor process. Here check out the 10 things no one told you about labor.
1.Your partner is equally freaked out: As soon as the labor pain begins, the already nervous and fragile female starts getting tensed and upset. The pregnancy hormones play havoc to the mood of the mother. No wonder the process is difficult for her, but it is equally nerve-racking for her partner. He is supposed to handle everything at the hospital, manage the over-excited relatives and most importantly, soothe the partner. Most males cannot handle this pressure.
2.You forget all you know: In most cases, whatever one has learnt in the past months in pregnancy classes is forgotten at that moment. The tension and pain can easily overpower your voice of reason. All those positions one learns to ease out the pain and make the process an easy one, might just be a waste as your mind can go blank.
3.You can act completely crazy: Due to the change in the levels of estrogen and progesterone, women generally start crying, wailing or shouting at others during labor. They may curse the person standing next to them, be it their doctor or the husband. Most of the doctors are familiar with such situations and can handle them perfectly well.
4.There can be unpleasant noises: As the baby pushes along the birth canal, you may pass gas too. This is because air is forced out of the anus the same time. This can be considered as an undesirable side effect of delivery but is absolutely natural at the time.
5.You may not fall in love with your child right away: As horrible as it may sound, this might just be the case. This is because after the long and grueling procedure the mother has been through, she is extremely exhausted. The baby might not be a pleasant sight at the moment you see him/her. But once you recover your energy later on, you will surely be more than happy.
6.Your teeth may chatter: There has been no scientific knowledge relating to why this happens, but many women experience chills and their teeth chatter during labor. Some people are of the opinion that this is because during delivery, a small quantity of mother’s blood mixes with that of the baby. If the blood types are incompatible, the mother may feel cold and shiver.
7.You may vomit: This can be because of a variety of reasons including the food that you have consumed, the effect of anesthesia that has resulted in reduced blood pressure or just because of the severe pain that you experience. It may cause hypertension and result in throwing up.
8. Each delivery is different: There is no standard time for the labor to be over. It varies from person to person and while one of your friends may have endlessly blabbered about how her labor lasted for hours, yours might just be a speedy one.
9. It is not necessary to wait for the right time: If you insist on going by the book and noting all early labor symptoms to kick-off, it might be too late. There may be false pregnancy alarms but when one feels that going to the hospital is the right option, one must not wait unnecessarily.
10. Do not plan too much: Every couple prepares a birth plan, for they believe that at the moment everything will go as they planned. But in of the most cases they are wrong and as a result, they get panicky. One must always keep it in mind that a new life is going to enter their world, and it is not the same as purchasing a sofa from the store. So as much as you plan, everything may not be executed as per your wishes at the time of delivery.
So, it will be right to say that giving birth to a baby is a no easy task. There may be numerous hurdles but nothing compared to the pleasure of seeing your newborn.
