During labor, different techniques for breathing must be adopted by the mothers so that they are able to ease off the pain easily without having to strain more than usual. Breathing helps in availing the necessary amounts of oxygen for both mother and the baby and so adequate breathing must occur in order to sustain the health of the mother and the baby.
Mothers must not panic at all or rather show various signs of fear which may induce more and rapid breathing because this will lead to using more muscles in the body. More energy is usually required by the mother during labor and so in order to conserve such energy constant breathing must be evident. Panic breathing may also cause lower levels of oxygen in the body, a situation which may go on to affect the overall health of the baby.
Breathing during labor
The most crucial time to control breathing is during labor and here mothers always do not follow simple instructions on maintaining their breath. Muscle movement must be controlled using the breath so that there is coordinated response between the breath and the muscles of the body. Shallower breath may be felt during heavy contractions and so mothers must not fear anything.
Taking the help of a supporter
For some mothers, labor pains may be too extreme and they may find it difficult to control their breathing moments and so using supporter during labor will help in bringing about the necessary support into better breathing. Such support may come from helpers or even spouses. Eye contact may be useful here so that a lot more concentration is directed to the breathing exercise and at the same time make the mother feel rather occupied and avoid any amount of loneliness. Labor supporter may be required to participate in co-breathing with the mother.
Breathing and pushing
Breathing and also pushing the baby will be necessary during the second stages of labor so that the baby is able to move down towards the vagina and out into the world safely. Here the mother may be required to hold on tightly and push the baby at the same time avoiding breathing. However, pushing and breathing will also be decided by the mother unless any directions are provided by an expert.
Don't rush and wait for the right time
However, many mothers may use breathing to push before enough space has been created in the cervix area and this will make them feel more pain because the baby will be forced out before the exact time. In these cases the doctor may go on to advise such mothers to avoid pushing until the right time is reached; further breathing and styles of lying down will be prescribed by the doctor so that breathing which will not affect the process may be attained. In order to avoid pushing while breathing, mothers must develop a sense of emotional order which tells them not to push as they breathe.
Correct breathing method should be taught
Finally breathing patterns must be taught to mothers during pregnancy so that in the long run they may be able to prepare well for their deliveries and other events associated to it such as labor and the immediate delivery. In order to avoid much pain, mothers must make use of their support persons while they endure all these pain during the labor periods. However, neutral behavior concerning overall emotions must be encouraged greatly so that in the end mothers will be able to lower their pain by the help of their nice and positive emotions within themselves.
