Be it on a lonely road, a crowded mall, a bus, college campus or any place for that matter; there are several instances where a woman feels intimidated. Given the increasing number of crimes happening against females all around the globe, safety of woman has turned to be the biggest question of the hour. And it's not just upon the family, police or society, being a woman you too have a responsibility towards your own safety.
Predators are roaming around freely waiting for that one weak moment to grab you. Don't let that weak moment come, instead prepare yourself in a way that you you can face any situation without fear. Here check out the self defense measures every woman must adopt at time of unseen danger:
1. Carry a pepper spray: It is the best weapon a woman can carry along. If you feel someone is stalking you and there's no one to look around for help, knock him down spraying a pepper spray on his eyes. He won't be able to see anything for a while and you can easily make an escape from the place.
2. Scream aloud: In case you are traveling alone and get stalked or molested by a person, scream for help. Yell at the top of your voice, this will even scare your attacker for a while. You will even be able to get some quick help. Never succumb to fear, take control of your mind and body so that you can look for a way out.
3. Use some self-defense moves: There is nothing to worry if you aren't trained in martial arts or self defense. You can still face extreme situations by using the power of your body. If ever you are caught hold by someone, hit him using your hands or elbows. Hit hard between his legs; the acute pain will loosen the grip thereby helping you to escape.
4. Speak over phone when being stalked: When you are walking down a lane where there is no one to rely upon, guard your moves. If you sense someone is following you, quickly pick up your phone and speak to anyone be it your husband, boyfriend, family member or friend. This way the stalker will know you are being tracked by your known and under most possibility he will flee away from the place.
5. Change your route: Stalkers at times continue to follow you until they get hold of your home or office address. There are many times when women encounter such perverts. If you sense something like this, change your route immediately. If you are in a market place then get into any store or walk through different lanes till the time you feel the stalker has lost your track.
6. Be in a crowd: If you have to travel out whether to your workplace or anywhere else, ensure to be near the crowd. If you are at an isolated place and sense any danger, quickly move to a crowded place as this will keep you safe.
7. Never travel alone in a public transport: Public transport certainly sounds to be one of the safest mode of transportation. However, if we look back and recall the horrifying Delhi rape case, there is a question that's raised on the reliability of public transport. To be on the safer side, avoid traveling in public buses if there are no other passengers.
8. Dress appropriately: Women certainly have the right to wear what they like. However, it is always good to dress as per our surrounding; especially in the Indian context. When visiting small town areas, stick to something sober that doesn't draw in much of attention.
9. Don't put on flashy jewelery: By dressing up yourself with expensive and flashy jewelery pieces, you will only be inviting trouble. When traveling on your own or going by any of the public transport, never put on heavy jewelery.
10. Be careful when using a cab: There have been many instances where women have been molested, raped and even murdered by the cab drivers. Therefore, be very careful while hiring a cab. See to it that the driver is trustworthy. As soon as you board the cab, note down its number and inform the same to your known right in front of the driver. This way the driver will be aware that his details are with someone you know. If in the worst of cases, he tries to take you from a different route that appears unfamiliar, get the cab stopped and shout for help.
