A woman fits into the role of a daughter, a wife and a parent very easily, along with the many subtitles she gets once she is married. No matter how hard it is, she makes it all look easy.
But a happy home, is one where parenting responsibilities are equally divided between the husband and wife.
It's nature's course that a baby grows to be more attached to the mother during the initial stages of development. But that doesn't make her an expert in parenting. Both new moms and dads are inexperienced when it comes to handling babies. They are both learning and trying to do their best. If you have had your first baby, you will both go through feelings of anger, uncertainty, confusion and worry.
It's important to have each other to fall back on, in times of difficulty.
How can you share your responsibilities?
Accept the differences:
It is possible that your partner's parenting skills might differ from yours. Accept each others skills. Just because it is different doesn't mean its wrong. Talk about what would be the best course for your baby.
Take turns:
Understand and distribute your tasks evenly. If you are a new parent but a working one too, use the time at home in doing things for your baby. This will also help in improving your bond with the baby. Remember new dads, going to work is not part of the distribution.
Be helpful:
If you come from work early and see your wife cleaning up after the baby and changing his/her diaper, step in and take over. These little tasks will help your baby get acquainted with you and improve the father-son/daughter bond.
Communicate:
Communicating effectively is one of the most important aspects of a successful marriage. New moms must discuss their day's events with their husbands. Keep them involved with the baby's changes and development.
Everybody makes mistakes:
You are both learners and bound to make mistakes. Its important to focus on what you learn through them. Accept the flaws and let go sometimes. Avoid reminding each other of the same.
Be direct and honest:
More misunderstandings are created when we assume that some things are to be understood without being spoken. If things are transparent and clear from the beginning, you will be able to work better as a team. Avoid the drama in life, your hands are already full.
Know your priorities:
If your priorities are set, you can plan better. This will help you distribute tasks accordingly.
Acknowledge and appreciate:
Show that you care by doing little things and helping around the house. Acknowledge each others efforts and appreciate it. A smile or a hug, might be the most sweetest gestures of showing that you are being cared for.
Share the leadership :
Parenting is a team effort. Both should be equally responsible. There might come times when one of you might have to take the lead and guide the other through a task. Be gracious and take turns with leadership. Let your partner take the lead sometimes too.
Keep some “Me” time for yourself :
In the midst of the work and the busy schedule don't forget to give each other sometime off.
Behind every successful woman or man there is a loving partner and a supportive family.
