If you are getting your young one admitted in school, you may have apprehensions about co-education or a single sex school. While today when both males and females interact in every sphere of life, there is still debate about which school is better for the child’s overall development. There are pros and cons of both, so weigh your requirements before making a choice.
It has been proved that co-ed schools present a better learning environment, especially for girls. Girls have always outshone boys in co-ed schools, as it provides them a natural environment. Healthy interaction between the members of opposite sex prepares them for the future, and builds upon social relationships and confidence amongst the children. It gives them an opportunity to learn from one another and adopt themselves differently. For single-sex schools, majority are of the favour that it benefits girls solely. Truth is, that single-sex schools encourage the children to improve upon all the activities, rather than some specific activities. For example, girls might be encouraged to participate in dance and music only, whereas in a girl’s school they will participate in horse riding and science quizzes equally, without any gender bias. It will also do away with teenage dating, that most parents
are worried about. However, the single-sex environment may promote detrimental rivalry.
