There are different ways on how you can teach your toddler to count. You should start with counting objects around your toddler. This would give your child an idea of the existence of the words, “one”, “two”, “three” and so on. Slowly, your child would also start to count by pointing at things. The counting pattern might not be correct. You need not worry about that. It would be self corrected by your child, when the sense of numbers is realized. You can also use small nursery rhymes or children songs containing numbers. That will help your child to remember how the words sound.

When your baby is a year old, it is a good time to start teaching numbers. You can innovate different creative ways too. You can buy blocks containing the digits written on it, or have balloons hanging in the room.
While your child is a little grown up and it is time for him to get the sense of numbers, you can play games with digits, or even make your child read the telephone index and identify the digits on the telephone. Make learning fun for your child and never force your child to learn if he/she is not interested.
