Intrauterine insemination or IUI is also referred as artificial insemination; it is the method by which washed sperms are directly introduced into the female uterus with the help of small glass tube. This is an important solution to deal with male infertility. IUI is basically a more cost effective method in comparison to IVF method thus it is more popular among different sections of people. Experts are of the opinion that assured pregnancy depends mostly on the age factor of the woman and the infertility causes, however it is suggested that if pregnancy does not occur after three consecutive attempts of IUI, more developed techniques like IVF should be followed.
Though IUI is generally an easy procedure, not many complications are reported. Basically the woman undergoing the IUI may face problems like infection, bleeding, cervical injuries, and abdominal cramps; under some cases sexually transmitted diseases. Usually the seamen are introduced directly into the female body via catheter either through vagina or cervix. Chances of infection or STDs through contaminated catheter or the sample of sperms are high. Hormonal treatments may also cause ovarian hyperstimulation i.e. swelling of ovaries which generate pain and cramping in the abdomen region and also gain of
weight.
