Sharing your own success story can motivate many other parents that their child will also be able to live a normal life. Sharing your experience of what made a difference to your speech therapy will surely inspire many others. Here are some experiences.
Heidi’s has 3 sons. The first two had normal language development, while the third one who is about 3 years of age now, did not have a vocabulary like other kids of his age until some months back. When he was about 5 to 6 months old, he started saying words like “ma”, but then later, the development almost stopped. She was worried and communicated this to the paediatrician, who waved off her concerns saying that the child is the third one, and also a boy, so speech may develop a little late. Perplexed, Heidi took refuge of internet and collected all that she could by researching websites. She started with exercises using chewing gum, straw cups and started teaching the child signs using videos suggested for the child. Within a month the child learned around 45 signs, and with some time, he has replaced these signs with the words. He is progressing each day, learning words with more than a syllable. It takes patience and practice on the part of child and Heidi, but the child can now count up to 10, and recognize
colours, alphabets and objects.
