Yet another week has passed and your baby is about to complete the 4th month of her life. The adorable little has become everyone’s new toy in the family with her cute antics, babbling and giggling. By now, the baby has a unique personality and seems clearly distinct from other babies her age. Some milestones associated with the 15th week are covered in the following section.
Baby’s milestones at 15th week:
-
Most babies weigh around 13 pounds and have grown up to 24 inches by this week.
-
By 15th week, the baby begins to develop memory. She is learning new things about her environment and family each minute and new connections are being made in her brain. When she visits a new place or comes into contact with a new person or object, she recognizes that she has not had this experience before. The memory span has extended to more than 7 seconds now.
-
The baby discovers new sounds each day, and you can listen to new kinds of squeals when the baby is excited or queasy.
-
She is now enjoying her bath time and splashes around in the tub.
-
Mirror images interest the child immensely.
-
The baby has begun to adjust different responses to different individuals. She is intensely happy around her loved ones and may resist being with a stranger.
-
The baby excitedly throws her legs and arms in the air sometimes, and the movements are jerky. She is also able to hold her legs with her hands and make bicycling like movements. All these movements help developing strength in her limbs and will become more graceful in the coming weeks.
-
Most babies begin to roll over on their own, if not completely then partially.
-
A huge number of babies begin to suck their thumb at this point. It is important to nip this habit in the bud as it is harmful for the child when she begins teething.
-
Babies have found another means of communication by beginning to razz by now.
-
Your baby interacts and plays with other even more gleefully now and has an adorable gummy grin. She may become even more interested if you play games like peek-a-boo and make funny faces or have squeaky toys and rattles.
The 15th week: what is required from the parents? This is the right time to do some catching up with friends and relatives, as the baby now does not need expert care. Enjoy a quiet romantic dinner, a play or a movie with your partner without changing nappies or feeding your baby may seem a glorious idea to all the couples. However, some things to be kept in mind this week include:
-
Babies love exploring new objects and it is tempting to buy new toys for them, but one must ensure that the toys are safe for her age and do not have any sharp edges or small parts that may cause choking.
-
The baby loves being rocked or thrown in the air because of the pleasurable senses in her brain by this activity. Make sure the baby is secure when you do this.
-
When visiting the pediatrician, ask questions about the baby’s mental and social development as well. Pediatricians can also recommend reliable caregivers if you are having a hard time finding one.
