When your baby crosses 17 weeks or the 4-month milestone, she will soon start to grow her charmers. Yes, she will be teething! At around this stage, babies usually salivate a lot, so expect some drool-filled weeks ahead.

Normally, the first tooth sprouts up between 4 and 6 months, but be prepared for some high-end activity before you can actually start to see those little pearls. Your infant will want to chew on something all the time in this stage. You could try giving her teething rings, but these are made of plastic which may contain toxic ingredients that could prove very harmful. So settle for a reputed brand. Try giving her a raw carrot to chew on, but stand by and supervise. Try asking your doctor for a harmless analgesic, an oral one, that you can rub around her gums. This could give her some relief. A lot of Indian mothers give their infants homoeopathic remedies. Be sure they come from a trusted source before you use them.

Your little angel will start blossoming around this stage. Her eye color could change. Her hair shade too could take on a different hue. She can now start noticing things around her with keen interest. Basic, simple patterns will keep her captivated for a longer. She will also be able to recognize people who interact with her on a daily basis, parents, siblings, grandparents, even the domestic help.

Though you could take her around for a ride in your car, as she will usually love to look outside the window, many infants hate being strapped up in the car seat. A friend? 4-month old screams the roof down everytime she is taken out for a drive. So be prepared for some prolonged sound effects on your ride! If your child cries too, pull down the shades and put on some calming music. This might just help!
WHAT YOU NEED TO WATCH OUT FOR:
Keep an eye on how your baby is growing. Although there a spurts of growth between months, a sluggish chart should warn you and your doctor.
HOW MUCH SHOULD YOUR BABY WEIGH:
A lot of your baby weight depends on some genetic factors too. How were you as a baby? Were you chubby? Or were you thin? Were you a tall baby? Or a short little one? These factors also affect your newborn. So the weight on an average varies widely between all infants. So do not get stressed out if your baby is not very chubby and is thin. What is important is how healthy he is. It is all the rate at which babies gain weight that is important. Generally, babies put on anything between 175 to 225 grams every week, that is, they are usually double their birth weight by the end of the first 6 months.
Even if they do not follow this pattern of growth strictly, do not worry. This does not mean that there is something wrong with them. Your child specialist is the best judge. He will give you the right advice!
WHAT SHE SHOULD EAT:
Most doctors recommend the starting of solid foods between the ages of 4 and 6 months. In India mothers start their infants on mashed rice and weak dal or pulses. But if your child is not ready she might push the food away. Do not worry, try and start after some time. Each baby is unique, so wait, watch and just keep trying!
HOW MUCH SHOULD SHE SLEEP:
By 4 and 6 weeks, your baby should be paving the way for more consistent sleep pattern. Most babies take 2 naps a day and get into a 7 to 8 hour night sleep routine.
