WHAT SHOULD SHE EAT?
When you feed your baby solids in between milk feeds, you are not only reinforcing your baby’s feeding schedule but are also ensuring that nutrients in her diet are reaching her in the right way. Even when she has started eating at least two meals a day, breast milk or other formula milk should be taking care of much of her nutrition. Give her the milk bottle when she is hungry, in between meals.
WHAT WILL SHE DO AT THIS TIME?
At this stage, she will hate being confined in one place. She may scream if she is put into her seat or in the stroller. Always allow her the freedom to walk about on her own. Instead of taking her around in the stroller, you can set her down on the ground, let her crawl or walk slowly around.
At this stage, your baby may repeat a word incessantly, without stopping and even make it an answer to every question that you pose her! She will now sit down on her own from the standing position, and will even start responding to music and dance, by rocking, bouncing, swaying and humming.
Most babies love to be tickled. Your fingers are of course the best ticklers around, but you could try the soft fringes of a blanket, or a clean feather duster and watch her laugh in delight!
WHAT YOU COULD HELP HER DO!
Categorizing everything is a big pastime with your baby now. Whether she is sorting peas by the pod, or dropping balls into baskets, or getting the blocks to roll out on the floor, she is making mental bifurcations of each object in her mind, sorting objects by what they do and how they appear. It is a big mental transition for her. Imagine your little one knowing what an animal means? She can meow like a cat or will know that a dog barks! Isn’t that a big jump for your little one?
WHAT ABOUT HER SLEEP?
Your baby should be sleeping right through the night by now, and waking up once in a while, maybe due to the fact that she is hungry or is just not comfortable. The room might be just too cold or hot for her comfort, so try to find out what is bothering her, if she happens to wake up.
WHAT SHE WILL WEIGH
As she enters her 41st week, she would have started eating a wide variety of foods, and along with all that activity, will help her to gain a lot of weight. She should be ranging on the 91/2 kg and above chart by now. Get your doctor to check her out if you feel she is not gaining enough, although she is eating well.
