WHAT SHOULD SHE EAT?
By this time your baby should be eating solids well. She will also become more skillful in eating and adapting to many different types of food.
-
Be careful not to add any sweeteners to her food at this stage, especially honey.
-
When you warm her food, check it out first before feeding her, milk heated in the microwave might not heat uniformly, and there is a danger of singing.
-
Try giving her diluted fruit juice and allow her to drink it right from a cup, instead of a bottle.
-
From a bottle the sugar in the juice could stay in contact with her teeth for a longer time, so there are possibilities of her getting cavities.
-
Do not store food that she has not finished. Dispose it.
WHAT WILL SHE DO AT THIS TIME?
Your baby would have turned into a dynamo by now! Gone are the days when she would have lain silently on her back while you changed her diaper. You will have to be double quick yourself these days to get things done! Keep her distracted while you hum her favorite song. When nothing works, get down on all fours and go crawling with her! She will think it is all a big joke!
As she will exploring every nook, cranny and crack of your house, it would be best if you could vacuum clean it and keep it as spick and span as you can. Though infants have a very strong immune system cultivated efficiently in the womb, it is always advisable to keep washing her hands often, because every single thing goes into her mouth.
WHAT YOU COULD HELP HER DO!
Physically, she is growing. Mentally too, she needs verbal cues, to prod her further on the road of progress. Talk to your baby in a tone that is clear but firm, ensuring that she listens to your every word, as you stress on consonants and vowels. If you show your baby something and make a habit of pointing out to it repeatedly, she will most perhaps be able to remember it and absorb it in her memory for later recall.
Once she has become adept at ‘cruising’ around the house, the next step for her will be to be standing on her own. She will get up on her feet, one fine day, and in her own very wobbly way, try standing there, even if it is for just a few seconds. Yes, your baby is on her way to standing on her own, two little dainty feet! Capture the moment for posterity!
HOW MUCH WILL SHE SLEEP?
By now your baby will be sleeping about 14 hours a day, and as for her morning and afternoon naps, they could last around an hour each. If you keep her sleeping times consistent every day, and do not change them often, you will help to establish a sound sleeping pattern for your child.
HER WEIGHT
If she is not gaining weight rapidly, you should check with your doctor for once. Most babies have growth spurts during this phase, and she should be eating, playing and sleeping all in good measure.
