WHAT SHOULD SHE EAT?
By this time, your baby must be eating a great variety of food. By this time, she must be taking in around:
-
½ cup each of plain yogurt, or plain cottage cheese. It is called paneer in India.
-
2 servings of 3-4 tablespoons of fruit
-
1 to 2 servings of bread, crackers or cookies.
Pulses, cereal and rice will of course form a vital part of her daily diet .
WHAT WILL SHE DO AT THIS TIME?
-
To build your baby’s awareness, at 34 weeks, you could continue to cover objects and then showing them to her will help her understand that objects do not generally disappear.
-
She has also started understanding her routines during the day. When you seat her on her high chair at the dining table, she knows that it is time to eat. When you get her stroller out, she knows that she is going for a ride.
-
You can also start reading simple story books to her now. Choose books with brightly illustrated pages, with clear pictures.
-
When you read out to her, read slowly and plainly. Point to the pictures and trace shapes with your fingers.
-
For special effects, sing loudly, clap your hands, and make exaggerated movements with your hands. Let her observe you while you are doing this. She will find the experience interesting.
WHAT YOU COULD HELP HER DO!
Your baby will shy away from other people because she has now come to recognize you as being somebody her own. If she does not like being touched by strangers or other members of the family, ensure that there is some distance between your baby and the others. Once she sees you talking to the others as if nothing has happened, she will soon start getting interested. Act as if nothing has happened.
Your baby might now be ready to stand, the only thing is that she does not know how to get back yet! Just in case she keeps falling down, you could help her by keeping some pillows nearby. Never mind if she gets a bit hurt, with bumps and bruises in the process. It is all part of the game. She will soon learn to stand on her own.
WHAT ABOUT HER SLEEP?
When your baby eats, plays, gets ready for bed and sleeps around the same time every day, this will help her get into the sleep routine better. If she is sleeping at 12 noon everyday for an hour or so, you do not have to be so punctual as to have her sleep at exactly at 12 every day, but sticking to somewhat the same time will always help her to slip into sleep easily. You could play a quiet game with her just before she dozes off to sleep.
WHAT SHE WILL WEIGH
Your baby is growing well and should be weighing anywhere between 7 and 9 kgs now.
