WHAT SHOULD SHE EAT?
Now that your baby has tried various foods, you will find that she has started making her own preferences. So do not be surprised if she refuses to eat certain foods and ignores the others. That is okay. She is just trying to form taste. As far as possible, let her eat independently. She will be ready to eat on her own in the later months if she is allowed some free rein now. So whether it is bread or bananas or mashed apple, let her dabble at her own food. Even at the cost of making a mess. She is not ready to have juice in large quantities yet, as this can keep your baby feeling full in the stomach. Remember that she should have less than 1 cup of juice till her first birthday.
WHAT WILL SHE DO AT THIS TIME?
Did you know that by the time your baby was 24 weeks, she had already developed basic maths skills. She now understands that when some events occur, a next set of events will soon occur after that. It is not as if she will start counting one-two-three on her fingers, but she is well on her way to learning her numbers.
She can now understand many words. Words like juice, cookie, ball, baby, shoes, yes, no, mummy, daddy and bye-bye. She can also follow simple instructions, like wave bye-bye to you, and if you ask her, she will probably come to you. She babbles a lot, continuing to create dialogue on her own, and will very well expect you to answer her! She can also imitate noises now, “rrr” for a car or scooter, “bow” for a dog, and will keep talking to her toys in her own, sweet language!
WHAT YOU COULD HELP HER DO!
You can play lots of games with her now! Rolling the ball back and forth will thrill her no end! If you sit down, and roll to your baby, you will find her rolling back the ball to you. This is one interactive game that your baby will play with anyone.
You will discover that your baby is able to get into a sitting position now. She can easily sit and pivot around to aim for her toy. This is because her trunk and body muscles are getting stronger. She can now raise herself on her hands and knees, lift her chest and tummy off the floor and keep them parallel there. If she is not yet moving confidently along on all fours, she will soon be!
WHAT ABOUT HER SLEEP?
If your baby does not fall asleep at the same time every night, maybe you should try looking at her daytime sleep routine. Try waking her up at the same time every morning, keep her mid time nap times constant, and also, try not to let her take a nap after evening. This will prevent her from going off to sleep at night. But trying to shorten her naps during the day with the hope to get her to sleep at night will not help much. It becomes difficult for overtired babies to fall asleep.
WHAT SHE WILL WEIGH
Your baby is growing well and should be weighing anywhere between 7 and 9 kgs now. If you have not checked her weight recently you will find that her weight curve has really moved well. There are growth spurts during this phase, so get her weight checked during this time.
