Managing kids’ study is indeed a tough task and if you happen to be a working mom, things are sure to be more difficult at your end. As you have your own work to manage as well as look after house chores, you find it real hard to keep a watchful eye on your child’s study.
And if you feel guilty of the same, just stop doing it. You are not the only one facing this problem as most working moms have similar issues. Though it gets a tad difficult but it isn’t tough to manage if given thought to a few considerations. Here let us understand what all things you can do to supervise kids’ study while working.
1. Set a time table
If you want everything to be done in a systematic way, it would be very good if you can design a schedule not just for your kids but for yourself as well. This will help you know what all things need to be done with priority. When you have a planned target for everyday, you get to save time which can be utilized in monitoring your child’s study.
2. Understand your child’s potential
Like adults, kids too have certain weaknesses and these can be overcome only if you work on them timely. Always be aware of your child’s potentials as when you know what all areas he needs help or assistance, you will be better able to help him overcome his weakness. For instance, if your child is good at reading but fails to memorize the spellings of words; chalk out some interesting ways to make him learn those spellings. Encourage him to learn some set of spellings daily and do ask him those to see if he is managing things well.
3. Plan a study schedule
As you know you won’t be at home to see if your child has done his homework or has he prepared for the test; it would always be better to plan study schedule. Even if your child goes for tuition, stick to a schedule that will help you monitor his day to day progress. It will even aid the child to know what all things he is expected to finish with in given schedule.
4. Be consistent with your monitoring
You surely have a hectic day at work and after coming up there’s a lot to manage at home. But don’t let this prevent you from monitoring your child’s study. Ensure that you dig out some time on a daily basis just to see what all things your child learnt at school. Ask him some interesting questions and engage in a healthy conversation. You can even do the question & answer session while making evening meal or doing the dishes.
5. Do your own homework too
It’s not that only your child needs to be prepared with his daily study schedule. You also need to stay updated with what he is studying. Gather knowledge on the subjects you have very little or no information at all. Make sure you don’t go blank when your child comes with a question as to when was the first computer made or why do stars shine only at night?
6. Create some interesting study material
A nice notebook, small notice board to display your child’s poems or creative art on the wall etc. can be some interesting ways to involve him or her with studies in a creative way. You will also feel nice when the study materials stand appealing.
7. Be encouraging
Your child might have the best set of teachers around or he himself might be very capable, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t in need for your encouragement. Always acknowledge the hard efforts he puts in and let him know that you are more concerned about how genuine his efforts are and not how high his marks are.
If you can abide by these rules, you will always be able to help your child excel in studies in a positive manner!
