Som is quite idealistic, abstract and heady, whereas the Som's mother relies basically on the instinct, intuitions and inner gut feelings. Som is often baffled by Som's mother's passions, insane loves and hates, and intensely emotional responses. This is because Som rational and cerebral. The two never succeed in building a long-term relation because of their differences in thinking and behavior. Som's mother longs for emotional support and attention while Som fails to provide the same as freedom is more important to an Som.
