What is Typhoid Vaccine?
Typhoid vaccine provides protection to kids against typhoid fever. It is a severe disease caused by Salmonella Typhi bacteria. It leads to high fever, stomach pain, headache, and even rashes in some cases. Typhoid if not treated can even prove to be fatal.
Vaccine Schedule
There are two types of thyroid vaccine available, however; only the Vi-PS (polysaccharide) vaccine is recommended which is injected either under skin or into a muscle at the age 2 or more. It shouldn't be given to kids who are below 2 years of age.
Why Your Child Needs This Vaccine?
Kids above 2 years are prone to typhoid and can get affected severely. This death causing disease can be controlled with the right dose of vaccination.
Risk Associated with the Vaccine
This vaccine can result into mild fever, headache, soreness or redness near the vaccinated area. Allergic reactions are very rare.
When not to give the vaccine
You should avoid or delay the immunization if:
1. Your child is sick. However; minor cold or illnesses shouldn't prevent the immunization
2. Your child had some severe allergic reaction post the previous dose of typhoid vaccine
3. Your child has an immune system weakening disorder
Child Care Post Vaccination
Minor fever and pain can be treated with proper medication as prescribed by the doctor. The soreness near the injected area vanishes away on its own. There is no major risk to worry about.
Can Typhoid vaccine be given with other vaccines?
Yes, certainly. There is no harm if the typhoid vaccine is given with any other vaccine.
When to seek medical help
You must check in with your doctor if your child has high fever, dizziness, faster heart beat or severe pain post the vaccination.
